Synthetic hair can be used in two ways: Braiding: Human and synthetic hair extensions can be braided into ones growing hair either to add length or volume. This can be complete or partial braids. Partial braids are created by braiding only a portion of the extension into the growing hair and can look very realistic. Twisting: Both complete and partial braids can be twisted with the bulk hair into synthetic dreadlocks.

Fibre: There are several types of fibre available that can be used in hair extensions and wigs. Kanekalon (KK) is the most widely used and is a heat resistant fibre.
