For years, Black women have complained about the chemicals in plastic synthetic braids. These synthetic fibers can cause irritant dermatitis, or itchy red rashes, on sensitive scalp skin. So some of these women have founded their own clean-beauty companies that make braiding hair with safer-for-the-scalp ingredients. One example is Rebundle, founded by Ciara Imani May, a social-entrepreneurship graduate student from USC.
Ruwa braids made with 100% AQUATEX hair from Kanekalon have a natural sheen that resembles blow-dried hair and tolerates hot water sealing well. They also detangle easily and are a good choice for serious braiders. The only drawback is that the colors are solid, not blended.
